Speedway Playboys
Speedway Playboys was the starting line. Formed in the late 1990s, the band tore through Oregon and Washington as a straight-up rockabilly outfit fueled by upright bass, twang, and youthful volume.
Before the horn sections, before the noir theatrics, before the outlaw lineage — there was the Playboys. Young, loud, and running hard on instinct, the band built its reputation in small clubs and long nights across the Northwest. Only a single live recording survives, capturing a snapshot of a group still figuring itself out but already leaning hard into the stage.
Speedway Playboys was raw, reckless, and necessary.
